John Godfrey serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor of Information Security and Chief Information Security Officer for the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) where he works with national leaders within healthcare and academic medicine. He joined KUMC in 2012 and has worked to develop and build the Information Security program. He comes to KUMC after having served at Kansas State University in a variety of IT and Information Security roles for half a decade. Prior to K-State, John had worked for a large telecommunications and internet service provider within Kansas that has been operating since 1951.

John remains very active in the profession and in the Information Security space within the Kansas City metro and nationally. He is a member of numerous industry and professional organizations, speaks at several conferences, moderates session panels, guest speaks on podcasts, writes articles for publications and magazines, consults with startups, and teaches undergraduate collegiate courses. John has repeatedly been described as both a passionate professional and a transformative leader through his deep commitment to developing and growing his team, his peers, and his organization.

In his spare time, he is working to complete his Doctor of Science degree with research foci in behavioral information security, cognitive affective flow, systems engineering, and the blending of process-centricity and quality approaches to team and organizational development. He holds a MSIA, several Bachelor of Science degrees, a CISSP certification, and many other academic and professional certifications.
