Ylan Kazi is the Chief Data Officer for Children’s Mercy, an organization focused on creating a world of well-being for all children. He is passionate about using data and artificial intelligence to improve patient health outcomes and transform healthcare organizations. He brings deep strategic experience in analytics, emerging technology, data governance and other aspects of creating a data-driven culture.
He leads the newly formed Enterprise Intelligence team, where he is focused on creating and executing an enterprise intelligence strategy, using sophisticated analytic capabilities and modern data governance practices. He works closely with C-level and other senior executives by finding value in data and using it to drive clinical and financial results.
Prior to Children’s Mercy, Ylan worked for UnitedHealth Group, a Fortune 5 healthcare company. During his tenure, he transformed analytics and focused on building out data science teams within the organization. He grew his team to become a global data science team and created an AI strategy for patients to improve their health outcomes and experience.
Prior to his five years with UnitedHealth Group, Ylan served as manager of healthcare analytics at Target Corporation, where he provided forecasts, budget administration, risk assessment and mitigation to pharmacy services. He spent the early years of his career as a healthcare delivery consultant for Cerner Corporation, and a senior operations lead for R1 Revenue Cycle Management.
Ylan is a featured speaker and thought leader in the artificial intelligence space and writes about artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency on his blog at ylankazi.com. He also serves as the AI/ML advisor for Smart Steward, a startup company focused on using artificial intelligence to predict antibiotic resistance and COVID-19.
Ylan earned a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Carthage College and Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota. He has also completed the Technical Leader Program through the Carlson Executive Education program. Ylan enjoys traveling, playing golf, reading, and spending time with his wife and two boys.
