Derek Bierman is the Chief Information Officer for Doane University. As Doane’s technology leader, Derek serves as the key advisor to the president and other members of the leadership team on technology strategies, initiatives, and innovations to support student learning, service delivery, workplace efficiency, and organizational effectiveness. He provides vision and direction in leading all aspects of technology operations and oversees the technology services teams responsible for transforming the experiences of students, faculty, and staff through technology innovation.
Some of his accomplishments in the past five years include: an award winning “Service Center”, a reimagined service desk to manage technical and non-technical service requests across the institution; developing a five year strategic analytics roadmap for student success in higher education; redesigning technology operations through Enterprise Service Management (ESM); implementing a 360 student and advising Salesforce platform later adopted by Salesforce for higher education; migrating 50% of services to the cloud; implementing an industry recognized student recruitment and retention platform; and a co-founding a multi-institutional shared services consortium where institutions are collaborating to consolidate services across their institutions, including a multitenant service management platform. Derek has presented nationally and internationally on topics such as strategic planning, innovation, analytics, service management, user experience, and organizational design.
Derek earned an AAS degree in commercial art from Central Community College and a BS degree in management of information systems from Bellevue University.
