Scott Genung has served in a variety of leadership roles within higher education spanning a career of greater than thirty years. His purpose has been to advance business, instructional, research, clinical, and outreach capabilities through the effective and innovative use of emerging technology and data practices and tools. These rewarding experiences have allowed Scott to establish a long track record of delivering meaningful impact during his tenure at four distinct institutions. These include the University of Illinois, University of Chicago, University of Oregon, and Illinois State University.


Currently, Scott serves as the Deputy Chief Information Officer for Strategic Partnerships at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. In this role, he is responsible for fostering and leveraging strategic relationships ranging from campus to national organizations to further the value and impact of IT and data upon the University. Prior to this role, Scott served as Interim Chief Information Officer during the height of the pandemic and Deputy CIO for IT Operations at the University when he first arrived in 2019.


Over his career, Scott has been active in a number of regional and national organizations including Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA), IvyPlus, Educause, and Internet2. To pay it forward, he also actively mentors at the University and elsewhere to help prepare the next generation of IT leaders. Digital equity is one of Scott's passions which led to his efforts to create in 2013 the Central Illinois Regional Broadband Network (CIRBN), a grant-funded broadband startup.
